Acceptable Use Policy and Computer Room Rules

Acceptable Use Policy
The following uses of the network are forbidden:
- the retrieval, viewing or transmission of any offensive material, whether sexual or otherwise
- the use of e-mail with abusive, offensive or defamatory content (e.g. content which could be construed as being of a racial or sexual nature)
- the use of the internet for any purpose which might bring the school into disrepute
- copying commercial software
- any activity intended to result in financial gain, or of a business or commercial nature
- the viewing, downloading or use of information or software to monitor or disrupt the CRGS network or any other network
- intentionally altering the set-up of any workstation
- logging onto the network using another user’s ID and password
- altering or deleting another user’s files
- the downloading of copyright material (e.g. text, image, music, video)
A good user of the network will:
- respect other users and work without disturbing them
- change their password frequently and keep it secure
- leave their station tidy for the next user
- obey the computer room rules
- be aware of the Acceptable Use Policy and follow it
- understand that CRGS will monitor all user accounts and e-mails, to the extent permitted by law, and therefore no material should be regarded as private or confidential
- understand that breaches of the Acceptable Use Policy will lead to the suspension or termination of their right of access
Computer Room Rules
- No eating or drinking in any of the rooms.
- No computer games of any kind, either graphic or text, during lessons.
- Only one person working at each station, unless permitted otherwise by a member of staff or computer room assistant.
- No transmission or reception of private e-mails during lessons.
- No use of public interactive chat rooms.
- Personal folders to be kept at an acceptable size.
- No alteration of the configuration of any computer on the network.
- Sound may be only heard through headphones, with the level set so that other users are not disturbed.
- Outside coats should be hung on the hooks outside rooms Y and Z, and bags brought inside.
- The central office between rooms Y and Z is private and is not to be used as a corridor.
- The instructions of the staff and computer room assistants are to be followed.
- Students with work to complete will always have priority.
- Work quietly so as not to disturb or irritate other users.
- Printers should only be used for school-related tasks and printing should be kept to a minimum.
- No tampering with computers, cables or peripherals.
- Access times are as posted on computer room doors.
- Sixthformers may use the machines in rooms Y, Z and Connexions during lesson times when there is not a lesson in progress.
There will be times when either or both of the rooms will be closed for essential maintenance, which occur at very short notice.
